Privacy and data handling
What we collect, why we collect it, how long we keep it and what choices a source has.
Purpose
End Ragging has two separate reporting routes. Confidential newsroom tips are collected for journalistic review. Official complaints are collected so End Ragging can check the selected destinations and transmit the complaint to those authorities with the reporter’s explicit permission. We do not sell submissions or use them for advertising.
What may be collected
- The information entered in the report form.
- Delivery events and replies received from authorities for an official complaint.
- Original files and their technical metadata.
- A cryptographic file fingerprint used to check whether evidence changes.
- Private access records showing which authorised reviewer opened or downloaded evidence.
Retention
New reports and evidence receive a review date 180 days after submission. An editor may extend retention when an investigation is active, a legal preservation duty applies or the source requests continued storage. Material that is no longer needed should be securely deleted.
Official complaint disclosure
An official complaint is not public, but its complaint text and any identity the reporter chooses to include are disclosed to each selected authority after a destination and privacy check. We use an email delivery provider to transmit and track those copies. Each authority controls what it does with a complaint after receiving it, and End Ragging cannot retract a copy from that authority’s systems.
Newsroom disclosure
Confidential newsroom submissions are not public by default. We may disclose information when a source separately authorises it, when necessary for verified reporting after redaction, or when lawfully compelled. We cannot promise immunity from valid legal process.
Your choices
- Send an official complaint anonymously or choose to include your name and email.
- Choose which available authorities should receive an official complaint.
- Provide no contact method when sending a confidential newsroom tip.
- Request deletion or correction using the private access key supplied after submission; a complaint already transmitted cannot be removed from a recipient’s systems.
- Withdraw permission for future contact, subject to material already transmitted, lawfully published or legally preserved.
